The Sim

Things You Should Know

> While we are based in the United States, you can think of us as 'reality adjacent'. That means that there will be differences. For example, rather than use actual, existing commercial enterprises, we'll come up with our own, sometimes whimsical counterparts. We might add a restaurant or remove an apartment complex. Whatever we need to tell a good story.

> We employ the use of 'literary license (within reason)' in the stories we tell. If the story requires a thunderstorm, even though meteorological sites indicate that no storms occurred that day, we'll add one though guaranteed it won't be in the middle of a desert.

> Hoarding. Remember the early days of COVID, when people were fighting over toilet paper? Hoarding exists here so you aren't going to find much of anything in the stores. You'll have to scrounge, go to different places (probably in different towns) and what you do have, makes you an attractive target. Life won't be easy.

> There is no plan to settle down. We're a group that travels together by necessity but has come to realize that nowhere is really safe. We're a group that wants to see what's happened to the country. Think itchy feet. Endless curiosity.

How It Works ...

We write using the Nova software through a website dedicated to our sim. Posts are divided into Seasons (think, calendar years) and within that, by Episodes. An episode covers a period of time within that year and generally follows a theme. Maybe it's as simple as finding gas for the vehicles or a way to survive a sudden storm. We write until the episode is resolved -- whether that takes a real-time week or two years (but hopefully not two years).

Writers on the sim are free to make suggestions about what they'd like to do within an episode. The GM/AGM are always willing to incorporate ideas and subplots into whatever we have planned.
